4 Steps to Getting More Referrals

How to get more referrals – Just follow these 4 easy steps!

(1) Relationship with people who have the potential to refer –

You must show up more than just once.  After the initial sale, what did you do to have them talk about you?  Did you do something unexpected?

(2) Establish authority –

– why are you the one that we should send others to.  You have to make them feel important to know you and comfortable that their friends would think that you are awesome.  At FreshStart Telephone , my clients were ashamed to have to have our service since we at first touted ourselves as the second chance telephone service.  Many of our clients’ friends and relatives did not know they were with our service until they were featured in the newsletter or in a picture on our wall.  So we changed the perception in order to get more referrals. We changed instead of as the second chance company to one were we celebrated our customers and gave away gifts.  We simply had fun while treating our customers like royalty.  Then, it was easy to get referrals.  Once the customers’ friends and relatives started complaining our their phone service, our customers would suggest they come to us – where they could feel great and get taken care of.

(3) Make it easy –

One of the hardest things in suggesting a new vendor is to convince the person to leave where they are already established.  No one wants to start new. They do not want to work that hard in the process to get switched over.  No matter what the circumstances.  We gave our customers FreshStart Activation Certificates to give to their referrals.  Made it easy and free to switch.  For my physician clients, we gave them postcards, with links to articles about the doctor (to establish authority as  in #2 above), also we sent them to the website to get a frequently asked question before changing a doctor.  For online referrals, we provided all of the sample emails, links, graphics – everything to make it easy for them to refer.

(4) Encourage

– Once they refer once, you need to encourage them to do it again!  First and foremost, you must remember to thank them properly.  And, make sure that you give them an incentive to refer again!
