I quit my business 15 times already

  • November 1, 2013

Yep, you read that right, I have quit my business 15 times already. Are you coasting for the end of the year?

Some months – 15 times per month.

BUT as an entrepreneur – You have a choice to make – are you going to coast into the holidays or are you going to ride this thing like there is no tomorrow?

It is beyond me, why you would ever choose to coast, but I heard from someone yesterday that they had simply too much going on and wanted to pull back a little.

Important Lesson of Entrepreneurship

** You must SEIZE every opportunity – because opportunities expire**

So choosing to coast, to pull back a little is more than a bad decision.  It can be business suicide.

Let me share with you a quick story

Real life often gets in the way to our goals.  August, 2001 my business was on the ultimate high.  I was hiring more employees, more customers than we could handle.  I even was turning away business because I was trying to control our growth.  My family reunion was coming for the Labor Day weekend and I was anxious to get some rest.  I had been working 24 hours per day and I felt as if I deserved the rest.

I made a crazy decision to not send the invoices to our customers until after I returned from the holiday. My customers were so predictable, getting an invoice a few days late would not make a difference.  One thing I never imagined was the horrible day of September 11, 2001 and that the world would change.  Within 90 days, everything – I mean everything in my business changed and I was laying off my employees and shutting the doors – owing millions.good choices entrepreneurship

I can hear you now saying – but Really Richelle???  Ummm, nothing like that has happened again…  and I would argue with you and tell you that those types of things happen everyday.  It may come in a different form – such as a city ordinance, a competitor moving in close to you, technology changes.  We can never predict the future especially the future of business.

A good friend of mine, is a health care insurance broker.  Do you think her once thriving business is now changed?  There were some difficult years for her.  BUT, things are now turning around.  I know for a fact that she is not slowing down this holiday season.

So I get back to the original question – are you choosing to coast or to ride this thing like there is no tomorrow?

Here’s what will make a difference –  CHOOSING to RIDE and PUSH!

We can all come up with reasons that the world would accept it if we decided to coast –

  1. I deserve it – I worked all year long
  2. We have the highest sales numbers in the last 10 years
  3. I had a death in the family
  4. My family needs me
  5. I am just tired of fighting
  6. People aren’t buying anyway
  7. I will wait to start when I feel better
  8. The time is about to change and I will only have so much day light
  9. My dog ate my manuscript

OK, so a few of those are questionable, but if you are on my list, you are like me – we can argue anything, and people would believe it.  Come on – we sell for a living…

Look – I am not saying that you don’t have every right to coast. PLUS the WORLD would say that it is ok.  I am also not saying that you don’t have a great reason to coast – I am simply asking you to make a better choice and refuse to quit.

The WORLD – remember- also has a job, with a steady paycheck. The WORLD doesn’t get a vote and we should not feel good when the WORLD co-signs on bad behavior.

We have to go out and earn our paycheck everyday.  Don’t miss this opportunity over the next 60 days to CONQUER!

I am grateful for you and appreciate you allowing me to help you build your million dollar business.
