How I keep Going…

  • May 17, 2014

Business Building is simply downright HARD!

So I get asked what keeps me going, especially when things are going the way I want them to.  Here are the quotes that keep me motivated and definitely shaped my attitude to keep going!

If you have been around me for anytime, you know that I am an AVID sports fan.  And basketball is one of my favorites.  BUT even if you don’t watch sports you know of Michael Jordan’s greatness.  He’s an amzzing basketball player and business owner.  This quote:

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. –

I understand this more than most.  What runs through my head everyday is “How you deal with failure, will determine if you ever get to deal with success”.  Losing it all after the 9-11 Tragedies, was definitely overwhelming and more frustrating than biting your tongue.

The feelings of failure flooded my thoughts constantly and made my life miserable.

Last December, my Father died unexpectantly, but I hear him constantly in my head saying his favorite quote – which is “Misery is Optional”.  You have a choice and while I was miserable, I decided to try again.

One of my favorite pastors – Joel Osteen, preached a sermon in the beginning of the recession and he said.  Look, I know that things are tough right now, and you have every reason to be frustrated and miserable, but I want you to take this time to bring joy back into your life.  Now, one of the people watching said, really, but you don’t know what I am going through.  And his reply was:  “  I’m not saying that you don’t have the right to be frustrated and miserable, I am saying make a choice not to be.”

That stuck in my mind.

Building a business is hard.  PERIOD, end of story.  I have had so many odd things happen to me – like the IRS garnishing my bank accounts the day before my $180,000 payroll was due.  How to tell the 52 employees that their checks would be late???  Or WorldCom suing my little $40 million company for $10 million  – YIKES,but I made it through.   Yes, I had every right to be miserable – but I chose not to be.

Which leads me to the mottos of my life – which are:

Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. –Charles Swindoll

God doesn’t do things to you – He does them for you – Joel Osteen

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop. –Confucius

Now, remember no matter how hard things are – just don’t stop!  What are the quotes that inspire you?  Share them with me below!
